Antigua and Barbuda: A Caribbean Paradise with a Crime Problem
Violent Crime on the Rise
Antigua and Barbuda, a popular Caribbean destination, has seen a rise in violent crime in recent years. Incidents of murder, armed robbery, and sexual assault have been reported, raising concerns among both locals and tourists.
Petty Crime Remains a Problem
Despite its reputation as a safe destination, Antigua and Barbuda is still plagued by petty crime. Tourists should be aware of pickpockets, purse snatchers, and other opportunists who target visitors. Even experienced travelers are not immune to these crimes.
Recent Attack on Cruise Passengers
In a recent incident, two cruise passengers were attacked and robbed while ashore in Antigua. The man was allegedly robbed of his Rolex watch by the two Perpetrators who also assaulted him during the offence.
Stay Vigilant and Take Precautions
While Antigua and Barbuda remains a beautiful and welcoming destination, travelers should be mindful of the crime situation and take appropriate precautions. Avoid walking alone at night, keep valuables secure, and report any suspicious activity to the authorities.
